Leverage: Kurt

Dear Kurt,

I am making a playlist of songs that describes your part in the book, Leverage.  I looked for coming to age songs that have a connection to the story.  I’m going to put the links to some songs that remind me of the theme of the book in the paragraphs below.

The first song of this playlist is “We Are Young” by Fun. I chose this song because in pages 90-95 there is a party at a football player’s house and it is the “party of the century”.  The similarities between the book and song are they are both at a party and drinking and having a good time.

My second is “The Show Goes On” by Lupe Fiasco. This song is about no matter where you come from you still can achieve your goals. When you get knocked down in life don’t give up.  This relates to when you moved from foster home to foster home but you never give up.  “Something I learned in foster care is that power and size matter. So does toughness.” (p.35). this is your song.

My third song is “Hall of Fame” by The Script. This song is about overcoming challenges to become the best. “Scott hands me the ball, I see a gap big enough to go through. “The only person between me and the end zone is Jefferson’s cornerback. I hurdle over him, my cleat nicked his helmet, I am now in the end zone”. (p.71). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mk48xRzuNvA

My final song is “Titanium” by David Guetta. This song is almost the same as the second song “The Show Goes On”. In “Titanium” the song talks about being strong on the inside. You go through a lot of pain and suffering in your early life and you managed to get through it all. It sometimes doesn’t matter what’s on the outside, it matters what’s on the inside.

The Hate List By: Jennifer Brown ~ Destyne jackson

Dear  Valerie Leftman ,

                                             Summerella - 11 Something Lyrics

The first day you went back to school after the shooting, you felt a lot of pressure to get yourself together: "This was the morning i was supossed to pick my-self up and get up with my life. " I Chose "11 Something" for you to listen to because I felt like It really related to you not being able to go to sleep because you had flashbacks about everything that happened when Nick shot up the school.

                                                 DeJ Loaf - Try Me
You said that you didn't want people to believe what they heard about you on the news "I was scared of facing all those people , afraid they'd all believed everything they'd read about me in the paper and on the news "Try me" ~ made me feel like it was best for you because when you went back to school you didn't want anybody to try you , you didn't want people to bring up the situation that happen.

Usher - Looking 4 Myself Lyrics
You thought that you didn't want to face the people and what they had to say " I pulled the sheets over my head , its not that i couldn't , i didn't want too"."Looking for 4 myself" ~ I thought you needed that song to know that its okay to be yourself , its okay to be lost within your self but you can always be found.

Nicki Minaj - Right Thru Me (Clean Version)

Knowing that people were not acknowledge you and " We started at each other for a minute's , I knew my mom was  looking for some sort of gratitude from me. "

"Right thru me" ~ This song really explains how you felt going back to school and what you went through , how people looked thru you when you walked the school halls and also when you were talking with your mom you always mentioned how it feels like she is talking right thru

Full Service by Matthew

Dear Paul,

I am writing you this letter because I have some songs I think best suit you. I hope you like these songs. And I’ll tell you why these songs best fit you. Most of them are hip hop and rock and roll. First songs “see you again”. Because when Janet left you were pretty devastated. And everybody knew you had a thing for her. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=see+you+again+wiz+khalifa

Another song that would best suit you is "moving it faster” because you became liked by Mr. Shell. And really good service and you made a lot of new friends. And I thought you had a blast working there. Like when you met Peggy and you helped your fiend dale out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThFnvjYYtFw

3rd song would be “crazy train” because you liked to do your own thing. And like in the barber you lose your cool when it necessary. And it’s pretty funny but the way you say you’re mad like “my eyes felt hot with rage”. And that was the song that I thought was best for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRMsphChLs8

My fourth song would have to be “phoenix” because the lyrics really suit you for example for Dave the jail bird the lyric “you are a brick tied to me that’s dragging me down”. Your mom is like the lyric “I’m goanna change you like a remix then ill raise you like a phoenix.” Because she makes you work. There’s more but you get the point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKOlBZJ7Izs

My final song would have to be “secrets” because it seems like you have a lot on your mind. And there’s a lyric in the song it goes “ I need another story something to get off my chest” And there’s more and it fits your life “my life get kind of boring need something I can confess”. Because if you would of not got a job you would have stayed the same with nothing special. And that was all the song I had for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHm9MG9xw1o

Sincerely,

Matthew Mattix
